Guns don’t Kill People. Salt and Trans Fatty Acids Kill People

There is absolutely no doubt we are doomed when a bill is introduced in the New York Legislature that, if passed, would ban the use of salt in restaurant cooking. As if the city wide ban on Trans fat wasn’t bad enough, they are going after that nasty chemical that is manufactured by the metric ton by threatening artificial chemical plants such as “The Ocean”.

The proposed bill, A. 10129 , states in part that, “No owner or operator of a restaurant in this state shall use salt in any form in the preparation of any food for consumption by customers of such restaurant, including food prepared to be consumed on the premises of such restaurant or off of such premises”

Do you think that the morons that we call legislators are somehow misguided, mistakenly thinking that the salt in the “Dead Sea” is actually deadly to humans? Or maybe they think that since drinking ocean water will make you sick, salt in food could do the same?

Unfortunately, none of these reasons hold any merit. The real culprit is the fact that politicians believe in big government imposing more and more rules in our daily lives. Don’t get me wrong, eating a ton of salt probably isn’t the most healthy thing a person could do. However, our government continues to protect its citizens from another deadly menace……ourselves.

A New Evil has Declared War against America

Screw worrying about Muslim Fanatics. The United States of America is under assault by a threat by a force that kills without mercy, targets men, women, and children without hesitation, and does it all while managing help the environment by saving you money at the pump. No, not Hugo Chavez……I am talking about the Toyota Prius.

The Toyota Prius is already targeting American citizens, as evidenced by the car trying to kill a California man last week by accelerating and not stopping despite the man’s cries.

Prius - Wanted Dead or Alive

San Diego resident James Sikes, 61, was the subject of a highly publicized incident on a Southern California freeway March 8. Sikes said his Prius’s gas pedal stuck, causing his car to speed to 94 mph. He was able to stop the vehicle after calling 911 and receiving instructions from a state trooper who pulled his cruiser alongside the speeding hybrid.

However, while this Prius attack failed, there are multiple others in the works, as reports of Prius cells coming across the border have law enforcement and the military scrambling to contain the threat. However, the government authorities are working at a disadvantage, since they aren’t allowed to discriminate against small compact Toyota cars due to the politically correct cries of model and make auto profiling.

So hold onto your loved ones, and prepare for the end of the world. After all, I just heard a breaking news story about a Toyota Prius racing out of control towards New York City. The commentator said that the rogue car had a dirty salt bomb laced with Trans Fatty Acids, and was last seen breaking the law by smoking a cigarette in a state mandated non smoking sports bar.

Obama Stimulus Waste in North Carolina

Remember last year when we had to pass the stimulus package immediately, or unemployment would go to 8.5%? Well, unemployment peaked so far at over 10%, and the nearly 800 billion dollars that made up the stimulus has been used just like a typical big government spending spree.

I remember many ludicrous spending stories shortly after the stimulus plan was approved, but hadn’t heard of any recent transactions that bordered on the absurd. That is, until I happened across a blog from the John Pope Institute () that gave examples of the reckless stimulus spending in the state of North Carolina. Here is a “best of Obama Spending” list, as written by Brian Balfour of the Institute.

View this list as quasi-humorous, but please keep in mind that this type of spending is what may bring our county to its knees.

Stimulus Waste in the Great State of North Carolina

1. Study of monkeys using cocaine: $71,623
Wake Forest University was granted money to “study the effects of self-administering cocaine on the glutamate system on monkeys.” Well, at least the monkeys will be stimulated.

2. North Carolina Dance Theatre: $50,000
This grant is used to retain four professional dancers from the North Carolina Dance Theatre’s second company. Nice for them, but why are tax dollars financing what should be a privately-funded philanthropic organization?

3. Reducing hot flashes through yoga: $147,694
Funds granted to Wake Forest University to study “preliminary data on the efficacy of integral yoga for reducing menopausal hot flashes.” The President warned us that the stimulus plan was needed to avoid an economic “catastrophe.” How does this study help revive the economy?

4. Collecting, researching and reporting on the stimulus act: $115,000; $150,000; $227,940
Total: $492,940
Nearly half a million taxpayer dollars will go toward funding more propaganda selling the “benefits” of the stimulus plan. The federal government created the Recovery Accountability and Transparency Board, while North Carolina established the Office of Economic Recovery & Investment for these very purposes. Apparently, that’s just not enough propaganda.

5. Create interactive dance performance technology: $762,372
This grant to UNC-Charlotte will fund the development of computer technology to digitally record the dance moves of performers. The recorded movements can then be reviewed and manipulated by a computer program. Although creating virtual-reality type technology for dance movements may be interesting to those involved, how does this serve to “protect the education of our children”? At an average salary of roughly $47,000, this money could have saved 16 North Carolina teacher jobs.

6. American Dance Festival, Inc.: $50,000
A graphic designer and archivist will retain their jobs thanks to this grant. The American Dance Festival hosts dance classes, workshops and engages in other charitable activities to help support dancers. How will this help reverse a major international financial crisis, exactly?

7. Construction of a new Town Hall in Bladenboro: $200,000; $100,000
Total: $300,000
Why are taxpayers from across the country forced to finance construction of a local government office? This is a classic case of earmark pork spending.

8. North Carolina Folk Life Institute:$25,000
With the help of this grant, the Institute was able to retain its executive director. Will this help “provide relief to North Carolina’s families”?

9. Preservation of an insect collection at North Carolina State: $253,123
We were promised that the stimulus was going to “save jobs.” We were never told it would also help preserve dead bugs.

10. Greensboro Symphony Orchestra: $50,000
These funds are used to retain the GSO’s director of marketing and education manager. More bailouts of what should be a privately-funded organization.

Michelle Bachmann continues to impress me

I have to admit that only a year ago, I had no idea who Michelle Bachmann was. However, over the past year, she has garnered my attention by her outspoken views opposing many of the Obama administration’s policies like universal healthcare, cap and trade, and global warming hysteria.

However, equally impressive are her personal values and general advocacy for her voters, and the United States as a whole. Bachmann has come under repeated attack from the left in a vicious manner rivaling counterpart Sarah Palin. I firmly believe that like Palin, Bachmann brings an element of a person who American voters can relate to. Therefore, she has gotten the bullseye firmly emplanted on her back by the Democrat attack machine.

Here is the biography of Michelle Bachmann, as it is laid out on her website. I think that she is just getting started, and will be one of many Conservatives leading the renaissance of the republican and tea party politicians moving into the future.

Global Warming Activists in Absurd State of Denial

I live in Atlanta, and I can tell you firsthand that we have had a winter like I haven’t seen in quite some time. As of today, we have had 4 winter storms this year, and we won’t be officially in the clear until a few weeks from now. At that point, we can finally declare the winter of 2010 as complete.

So what is my point?

My point is that it has been freezing cold this winter. Please forgive me northerners, but we usually have a smattering of 60+ degree days throughout the winter, but this year, we may have had one day that falls into that category. As a result, I am officially declaring an end to the Global Warming effects hysteria. That’s right….Political Prostitution is taking the plunge and declaring all of the libs who believe in this debunked science as living in a serious state of denial.

It is really simple. The fact is that upon reviewing the data myself, I can declare that from a personal Atlanta point of view, the Global Warming argument doesn’t hold water. Here is why.

Review the data below that goes over the record highs and lows for Atlanta, GA.  Out of 90 days over the 3 month period, there have only been 5 record highs since 2000. That’s right, only 5% of the record highs were set this decade, which has been inundated by the incessant Global Warming doom and gloom. Proportionately speaking, 5% is a much lower than the average number of record high temperatures in any given decade since the records started in the late 1800’s.

And it doesn’t stop there. Washington D.C. and much of the northeast had their biggest snowfalls in recorded history. But the nutjobs won’t declare defeat, instead claiming somehow that, “The recent massive snow events are a direct  Global Warming Effect?”

What? Good grief……..Please get over yourself, and admit that you are losing! The Global Warming team is down by 35 points in the 4th quarter……it will take a miracle for them to get back in the game.

The United States is a great country as a result of the democratic process that we enjoy, and the American citizen’s ability to openly voice their concerns.

Obama’s healthcare bill is at a pivotal movement in time, as the Democrats in the house and senate are threatening Reconciliation (Read: How could the Democrats use Reconciliation for Health Care?) to force the healthcare bill into law. If you are opposed to this bill, now is the time to take action by writing, faxing, and calling your representatives to apply your displeasure with the bill. If enough voters band together, many Democrats who are on the bubble of not being reelected may see the handwriting on the wall and vote against Obamacare.

However,  Pelosi cannot count on their votes again as Obama tries to force the bill  through using reconciliation in the Senate. These members are all in danger of losing their elected position,  and are frightened of the voter backlash their support for Obamacare has kindled.

Reconciliation is a buzz word that keeps on popping up now that Scott Brown has thrown a cog into the Democrats super majority. When it became apparent that the healthcare bill was for all intents and purposes dead, the White House and democrat leaders in congress are gearing up to try to push the bill through by way of reconciliation.

Let’s put aside the repercussions for democrats if they use this tactic, and instead focus on what the process of Reconciliation involves.

What is reconciliation?

Reconciliation is a fast-track legislative process that allows the Senate in a limited time period to pass a bill with the support of only 51 Senators.  A typical Senate bill can be slowed down by a single Senator, and blocked by 41 Senators.  This does not true for a reconciliation bill.

Reconciliation is a budget maneuver that makes the filibuster impotent, and would allow Senate Democrats to pass reform without any support from Republicans, on a simple majority vote.

When it comes to health care reform, some Senate Democrats are attracted to reconciliation because it would allow them to pass a bill even if there are 59 senators that oppose the bill.

How a normal Senate bill works

After debates and amendments if 60 out of 100 Senators decide to close the bill, this is called the “cloture” process, and it’s typically called for my the Senate majority leader. This is done in order to close off debate and place a hard limit on amendments and time.  If 60 Senators vote to “invoke cloture” on a bill, this guarantees that the bill will come to a final passage vote by a time certain.

Obama will stop at nothing to get Healthcare

These are the reasons why there was so much focus on Senator Brown breaking the Democrats super majority.  If all 60 Senate Democrats all vote to invoke cloture on a bill, the 40 Republicans can do nothing about it.  This is why a super majority of 60 Senators is the holy grail to both political parties, as they can act with impunity.

How a reconciliation bill works

The full name of this unique bill is a “budget reconciliation” bill.  It’s purpose is to combine into one bill the work of multiple committees that are changing federal spending and tax laws.  It is an incredibly powerful tool that bypasses the steps list above for a normal bill, but only for very limited purposes.  Senators usually value unlimited debate and amendment rights of individual Senators, and so they allow these rules to be circumvented only for a very specific purpose, in this case, healthcare.

The House and Senate are required to pass the budget resolution in the spring of each year.  In essence, this is the document that lays out how much the U.S government will spend in an upcoming year.  A budget resolution can contain reconciliation instruction(s). In turn, reconciliation instructions create reconciliation bills.

Usually,  you can use a reconciliation bill only to change spending, taxes, or the debt ceiling.  The process was used initially to facilitate deficit reduction. This requires the various Senate committees to produce bills that reduce the deficit by those pre-determined amounts.

A typical Senate reconciliation instruction might look like this:

When the Senate Majority Leader starts debate on this reconciliation bill, there are strict limits, unlike for a normal bill:

• Debate and voting time is limited to 20 hours, no more and no less.
• Amendments and debate must be relevant to the bill, as to use time efficient.

The first point means that a reconciliation bill cannot be endlessly debated or  amended.  Reconciliation means there is never a need to invoke cloture to shut off debate or amendments, as a result the existing majority needs only 51 votes to  pass the reconciliation bill.  Simply put, the difference between needing 51 votes and needing 60 votes is enormous.

As an avid follower of politics, I never cease to be amazed by the swings in the polls between the 2 major parties. The best recent examples would be when the Republicans “Contract with America” led to an overwhelming sweep in the mid-term elections of 1994, and the Democrat gains of 2006 and 2008 in direct opposition to the Bush administration.

Well, there is a distinct possibility that we have not seen anything like the mid-term elections in 2010.

Senator Evan Bayh declares he will not seek re-election

Today, Evan Bayh declared that he will not seek re-election for his senate seat in 2010. The recently popular Indiana Senator sent shockwaves through the political world with his announcement. There is much speculation about the real reason for his departure, as no one quite believes that he is taking this action as a result of what he claims as, “excessive partisanship”.

Call me crazy, but I think that he could see the handwriting on the wall, and his polling suggested that he would fall prey to very popular former Indiana Sen. Dan Coats. Even as Politico has reported Bayh with a 20 point lead over Coats, who only declared his intention to run last week, the latest “Change we can Believe in” entails the impending election bloodbath for democrats. As a result, Senators such as Bayh, would rather bow out gracefully now rather than during a prime time concession speech in November.

The other day, Robert Gibbs thought that he would “try his hand” at humor, and mimicked Sarah Palin by having notes on his palm. As usual, instead of being humorous, he only succeeded in looking like a horse’s ass.

Sarah Palin Must Scare the Absolute Hell out of the American Left

The tea party convention was this past weekend in Nashville, TN, and Sarah Palin, the keynote speaker, once again has the liberal establishment on the attack. The popular “dimwit” accusation is alive and well, and the new reasoning behind this thinking is a result of Palin having a few lines written on her hand before the speech at the convention.

Sarah Palin appeals to Americans in the mainstream

People identify with Palin. She is a regular human being, who has faults, yet brings a no nonsense way of thinking that resonates with the average voter. In addition, she scares the bejesus out of pro-choicers everywhere because not only is she pro-life, but actually puts her money where her mouth is when she gave birth to her most recent child, who happens to be mentally disabled. After all, how could she not have an abortion after learning this fact relatively early on in her pregnancy? This goes against everything that the pro abortion faction stands for.

Sarah Palin happens to be a Beautiful Woman

If there is one thing that a rabid feminist hates, it is the sight of a beautiful woman, especially one with conservative values. In my opinion, most feminists are probably the ones that never got asked out much in their teen and college years. As a result, they started to develop a chip on their shoulder that has only ripened with age.

Maybe the fact that they are such ardent abortion fans is a direct result of the lack of sexual intercourse over their younger lives? So, by the time they are in their mid 30’s, they are pissed off, and willing to have sex with anybody or anything, making abortion an attractive option if they get knocked up. After all, most feminists would drive a man to an early grave, thereby losing financial support for the mother and child.

Now this makes sense. If most leftists are out of work, or underemployed, they have ample time to worry about anything and everything to take away the pain of their current reality. It goes without saying that someone besides themselves is obviously to blame, so they immediately strike out at a public figure with whom they harbor jealousy and resentment. This would most likely be a female who is successful, attractive, happily married, gainfully employed, a self made politician and rock star, and generally happy and charismatic female. AKA. Sarah Palin.

President Barack Obama has joined the club of elite magicians this past week, with the unveiling of one of history’s most spectacular optical illusions. Somehow, he told the American Public that when he took office, the budget deficit was already 1.3 trillion under George W. Bush. My initial reaction was that of hearing some guy claim that he had dated Heidi Klum. It got my attention, but after dismissively laughing it off, I pondered what kind of drug they must be smoking, and didn’t even bother to try to figure out what the hell they were talking about.

Well tonight I heard how this illusion was pulled off. The sad thing is that most of the general public probably took it hook, line, and sinker. Here is the lowdown.

The nuts and bolts of Obama’s magic trick

Here are the facts:

In 2008, Bush ran a deficit of $485 billion. By the time the fiscal year started on October 1, 2008, it had gone up by another $100 billion due to increased recession-related spending and depressed revenues. So it was $600 billion. That was the real Bush deficit.

But when the fiscal crisis hit, Bush had to pass TARP in the final months of his presidency which cost $700 billion. Under the federal budget rules, a loan and a grant are treated the same. So the $700 billion pushed the deficit — officially — up to $1.3 trillion. But not really. The $700 billion was a short term loan. $500 billion of it has already been repaid.

So what was the real deficit Obama inherited? The $600 billion deficit Bush was running plus the $200 billion of TARP money that probably won’t be repaid (mainly AIG and Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac). That totals $800 billion. That was the real deficit Obama inherited.

Then…he added $300 billion in his stimulus package, bringing the deficit to $1.1 trillion. And falling revenues and other increased welfare spending pushed it up to $1.4 trillion.

So, effectively, Obama came close to doubling the deficit.

His program of fiscal austerity in this new budget is a joke. If he wanted to lower the deficit, here’s what he could do:

1. Cancel the remaining $500 billion of stimulus spending and

2. Cancel the $300 billion of spending in stimulus II.

Presto! The deficit is cut in half.

Those are the real numbers.
