Bayh Bye! Another Democrat Senator Bites the Dust

The Political Pendulum

As an avid follower of politics, I never cease to be amazed by the swings in the polls between the 2 major parties. The best recent examples would be when the Republicans “Contract with America” led to an overwhelming sweep in the mid-term elections of 1994, and the Democrat gains of 2006 and 2008 in direct opposition to the Bush administration.

Well, there is a distinct possibility that we have not seen anything like the mid-term elections in 2010.

Senator Evan Bayh declares he will not seek re-election

Today, Evan Bayh declared that he will not seek re-election for his senate seat in 2010. The recently popular Indiana Senator sent shockwaves through the political world with his announcement. There is much speculation about the real reason for his departure, as no one quite believes that he is taking this action as a result of what he claims as, “excessive partisanship”.

Call me crazy, but I think that he could see the handwriting on the wall, and his polling suggested that he would fall prey to very popular former Indiana Sen. Dan Coats. Even as Politico has reported Bayh with a 20 point lead over Coats, who only declared his intention to run last week, the latest “Change we can Believe in” entails the impending election bloodbath for democrats. As a result, Senators such as Bayh, would rather bow out gracefully now rather than during a prime time concession speech in November.

Nostradamus Wants to Vote Republican

Nostradamus Wants to Vote Republican

Even Nostradamus has declared November 2010 to be Dire Time for Democrats

November 2010 is shaping up to be an election for the ages for America. As a matter of fact, even historical scholars have suggested that the popular writings of soothsayer Nostradamus predict a Republican landslide this year. Since he successfully predicted the last 14 wars, the black plague, Kennedy’s assassination, and 9/11, who are we to doubt the mystical philosopher?

Bayh the latest Democrat, but who else is in danger?

In addition to Bayh, and the pickup of a Massachusetts Senate seat by Scott Brown, The following Democrats are in danger according to the Real Clear Politics Polls:

  • Nevada Senator Harry Reed 9% behind
  • Pennsylvania Senator Arlen Spector is 8% behind
  • Colorado Senator Michael Bennet is 14% behind
  • Illinois Republican Mark Kirk is 6% ahead in the Open Seat Senate race
  • Arkansas Senator Blanche Lincoln is a whopping 19% behind
  • Delaware’s Beau Biden has dropped out of the race
  • North Dakota’s Hoven is 39% ahead in the open, formerly Democrat seat
  • New York’s Gillibrand is 3% down if former Governer Pataki is his opponent
  • Washington’s Patti Murry is 2% down
  • Wisconson’s Feingold may have major problems if a credible opponent runs
  • California’s Barbara Boxer has a very slim lead against a Republican challenger

What should we make out of all of this?

This violent swing towards the GOP is a direct result of the electorate’s ardent dissatisfaction with the direction of the country. Many are furious about having healthcare pushed down their throats despite only 35% in favor of a bill, the absolutely reckless spending of the Obama Administration, and the execution of the war on terror.

The great thing about the United States is that citizens have a say with their vote, and the way things are shaping up, the American people are adopting Elephants versus Donkeys this election cycle.
